It all began with our homemade Bloody Mary mix and the desire to find the perfect pepper vodka. The hunt for an excellent vodka kept falling short, so we began to wonder if we could make a great pepper infused vodka. Well, the answer was quite simple, OF COURSE WE COULD!
The pepper vodka we were purchasing from the store had no real flavor, or the kick my husband was looking for. So, we tested a small batch and haven’t gone back to store bought since! Using our Bloody Mary mix and homemade pepper infused vodka, paired with our pickled asparagus or pickled green beans and candied bacon….no other Bloody Mary will ever compare!
Again, it’s all about the kick, and in order to get it we used a mixture of Jalapeno and Habanero peppers; make sure to remove the seeds or your infused vodka may not be able to be consumed. I speak from experience, let’s just say I couldn’t actually taste anything for the entire day.
We use a shelf grade 80 proof vodka, there is no need to use a top shelf brand. Since you are infusing it you will not notice the difference between a shelf or top brand.
I am sure you are wondering about our homemade Bloody Mary mix, and we are willing to share the recipe with you. Really, there is nothing to it. Once we finished canning up a batch of salsa we then can up the juice that are left over….ta dahhhhh, it’s as simple as that!
Enjoy it friends, cause once you start infusing your own alcohol you really never go back to store bought brands.
