Living a natural lifestyle is easy, however, one must choose to make the conscious effort to live this way.  Once you have learned how easy the process the transition is easy.

Now, I could easy, and will, talk about how to create a natural home and homestead, but first, let’s talk about what you put on your face. A DIY natural face serum recipe will stop you from purchasing a moisturizer which is filled chemical preservatives and unnecessary ingredients.

A Natural Home

Slowly, but surely, as a homesteading family we have begun making the changes to leave behind over the counter products.

Other easy natural items for the home –

A Natural, Chemical Free Product

As a teen and young adult I was never one to take care of my face.  Shocking, I know.  However, the times have changed. I have fallen in love with charcoal soap from Toups Organic. Not to mention, the tallow balm works well in partner with this DIY natural face serum.

Now that I am creeping close to turning 50, I began noticing that my face had lost its glow and needed some, well, tightening. This has lead me to create a natural solution for my face.

Selecting a Carrier Oil

This natural face serum is made with essential oils and fractioned coconut oil (FCO).  Other oils, such  as Aragon and Jojoba are good to use as well. I prefer fractioned coconut oil due to its ability to quickly absorb into the skin without leaving it feeling greasy.

Let’s be honest, I tend to rush in the morning and my DIY natural face serum needs to work at my pace.

Essential Oil Blend

The essential oils I have selected for this natural face serum are high quality oils which are third party tested for purity prior to reaching your hands.

Does that matter?  I’m going to say, most definitely!  This natural face serum is being applied topically to your face, which is the most sensitive and delicate area on your body. The right oils will make a difference in the outcome.

  • Geranium essential oil
  • Frankincense essential oil
  • Myrrh essential oil
  • Lavender essential oil

Frankincense and myrrh (along with geranium and Lavender) are excellent in helping to maintain a youthful appearance, each work towards reducing unwanted (though well deserved) facial lines.  These essential oils also work to reduce the puffiness we tend to get every now and then.

Yes, you know what puffy look I’m talking about. It is the early morning, I’m a homesteading woman who woke up at the crack of dawn, look.

Geranium oil works great against the mini volcanoes that could erupt at any minute on your face, and for that very reason I opted to not use melaleuca.

Lavender can help to soften scars left behind from acne.

Remember, those with sensitive skin should use caution when working with essential oils. Feel free to reduce the essential oil quantity by half to prevent skin irritation, even more if you have extremely sensitive skin. Also, make sure to preform a patch test prior to placing anything on your face.

Any essential oil in this recipe can be replaced or substituted for your preferred oil. For example, rose oil can be added to this recipe, providing excellent qualities and leaving behind a pleasant scent.

Glass Amber Eye Dropper

I prefer to use an amber 4 ounce glass eye dropper bottle to store this DIY recipe.  An eye dropper will allow you to easily dispatch how many drops needed.   Make sure to give the bottle a gentle swirl before each application to mix essential oils and carrier.

    1. There is no set ratio. Everything will depend on the dilution percentage based on age, skin type, and skin sensitivity. For example, I use a 10% dilution consisting of 36 EO drops and 2 tbsp carrier oil. How much of each oil is up to you and what you have on stock.
