Canning Homemade Peach BBQ Sauce

The ability to preserve a delicious summertime fruit is one of the greatest joys to preserving foods. In addition to using this peach BBQ sauce as it states, add to pork to create a peachy pork fajitas.

Peach BBQ Sauce Recipe – Ingredients

  • 12 cups Peaches, peeled and chopped
  • 2 cups Bell Peppers, cored and chopped
  • 2 cups yellow Onions, chopped
  • 1 cup Brown Sugar
  • 2 cups Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 1/4 cup Honey
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp smoked Paprika
  • 2 tsp dry Mustard
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • Bourbon, optional

Peach BBQ Sauce Recipe – Equipment

To simplify life, and create better time management, this peach BBQ sauce recipe was made using a electric roaster oven. However, smaller batches can be made using a slow cooker.

Canning Tools

  • Steam Canner or Hot Water Bath Canner
  • Jar Funnel
  • Air Bubble Remover
  • 3 quart size Mason jars, 1 pint size Mason jar

Peach BBQ Sauce Recipe – Instructions

  1. Blanch peaches for 30 to 40 seconds, remove and reserve skins.
  2. Slice peaches directly into the slow cooker or roaster oven. Next, add all ingredients except the bourbon. Gently fold together the ingredients, set slow cooker or roaster oven to low.
  3. Allow peaches to cook on low for 8 to 10 hours.
  4. Using an immersion blender, blend the peach BBQ sauce until the desired consistency has been met.
  5. The peach BBQ sauce can be used immediately or canned for later consumption.

Canning BBQ Sauce Instructions

  1. Instructions on how to use a steam canner can be found here.
  2. Using a jar funnel, fill jars leaving a 1/2-inch headspace from the top of the jar.
  3. Prior to adding the lids and rings, add 1/2 tablespoon of bourbon to each jar. 
  4.  Remove air bubbles, add additional BBQ sauce if needed.
  5. Wipe rims of jars, add warmed lids. Add rings finger tight.
  6. Process jars according to your altitude, see chart below.

Notes

  1. For BBQ sauce which is runny, remove slow cooker or roaster oven lid and turn cooking setting to high. Allow the sauce to cook down, stirring often, until desired consistency is met.
  2. Dehydrate reserved skins and grind to powder. The powder can be used to flavor oatmeal, pancakes, cakes, and pastries.

  • 2 cups yellow Onions, chopped
  • 2 cups Apple Cider Vinegar

  • 1 tbsp smoked Paprika

  1. Hi! Just a question! Roughly how many peaches do you expect to be used for this if we are talking medium sized peach? I’m thinking about doing a smaller batch 🙂

    1. Hello there, if you are using a large slow cooker it will take between 8 to 10 peaches. If you are to use a large roaster oven it will be roughly a box of peaches weighing between 20 to 25 pounds.
