The Pier One pieces are long gone, and in their place are old, worn items. Each piece has a story which we'll never know, but there's a blessing behind this. We, the savers of old things, now have the opportunity to provide these antique and vintage pieces new stories.

I don't have a modern farmhouse with white walls. Nor do I have a farmhouse with minimal items. What I do have is a home which will hug you the moment you walk in the door. Nothing matches. Your eyes will quickly dart from piece to piece. And you will either love my home or hate it.
.
Me? I rather love it. Including this newest vignette which, by the way, is taking quite some time to complete. Believe it or not, it is difficult to find artwork of cottages, farmhouses, and old barns.

I love working in my office, but sometimes my bedroom is a bit more comfortable.

Raising poultry has come with its ups and downs. The loses have been heavy over the years with the coyotes, bobcats, and mycoplasma gallisepticum. But there is nothing I enjoy more that hearing the roosters crow at 4am, hens singing their egg song, and the beautiful eggs from 100% free range poultry.

How was it possible that 7 years ago there was a life much different than this? A life without crowing, songs, and beauty all around.

What a boring life that was. There's so much more to learn about this life I live, and I'm more than willing to learn everything about it. Amen? Amen.

No matter how hard we try, we can't grow all the things. But what we can do is grow the things which serve us purpose. Especially for those who homestead on small acreage with a smaller growing space.

As you're planning next year's garden, plant with purpose. Intentional gardening allows you to maximize your yield, hence, allowing you to preserve foods more efficiently.
.
'Preserve more foods efficiently'..... when it takes 10 large heirloom slicing tomatoes to fill a jar for sauce, this is not efficient. Whereas using 6 Roma tomatoes to make a jar of sauce is.
.
Trust me, I get it. I want to grow ALL the things, and one day I'll have an eat fresh garden and a preserving garden. There is a difference and you have to be comfortable with the finding the balance.

I'm sharing this now as we all start signing up for seed catalogs. Or is that just me?

When you live the simple life you're EASILY reminded of the blessings and beauty around you. IF you truly value our lives you can see the goodness through the ugly.

There are two types of people in life. The first, ones who feel they HAVE to teach you. They will aggressively or passively place their beliefs and opinions in your face with the true intent of teaching you. And honestly, they mean no harm.
.
The second, the ones who organically teach you. They teach by example. They teach based on the lives the live. They teach without judgment, but with compassion. They realize change will take time but it needs to be made.
.
What's funny is this, both types often feel the other is wrong on how they teach. Only the true teachers shine during times like this. Only the true teachers can cross between both worlds and listen. Only true teachers can fight the fight and make solid changes. And by the way, the changes I'm referring to are changes of the heart.
.

A partnership to be proud of, a 7 pound 8 ounce Cornish Cross from @mcmurray_hatchery which was fed an organic whole grain feed (start to finish) from @scratchandpeckfeeds.
.
Today I taught friends how to butcher and package their birds, and I believe they were shocked at how beautiful the labor of their hard work was. In addition to getting birds from a well established hatchery which has been around for 103 years, to being fed a great feed, they were raised on pasture and provided the best stewardship one could give.
.
Here's to a great partnership, a family who has entered the homesteading life, and a friendship which allowed me to mentor them through this grand adventure!
