DIY Linen Bread Bag for Homemade Bread
How to keep bread fresh can be a challenge. A bread container for storing homemade bread is as easy as making a DIY linen bread bag. This simple linen bag will keep homemade bread fresh for days!
100% linen napkins, or linen tea towels
2 pieces of ribbon or twisted fabric rope
Sewing machine, or needle and thread to hand sew
Lay the two linen napkins together evenly.
Using a basic stitch, sew the two pieces together. First across the bottom end, then the two longer sides. Make sure to stop sewing 1 1/2-inch from the top.
Now for the drawstring. Working one side at a time, fold the open end of the linen in half and sew once again using a basic stitch. Make sure to leave enough room for the ribbon or twisted fabric rope to feed through.
Attach a safety pin to the ribbon or fabric rope, feed through the sewn drawstring section of the linen bread bag.
To prevent the drawstring from being pulled from the bread container, tie the ends together.
- The amount of space for the drawstring will vary depending on what is used (ribbon or twisted fabric rope). 1 1/2 inch is an average measurement, but make sure to calculate the width prior to sewing.
- Linen bread bags can be washed with mild laundry soap on delicate cycle, then hung to dry.
